
Unlike conventional chlorination systems, CHLOREFS direct electrolysis units are not classified as hazardous production facilities. Conventional systems typically operate with liquid chlorine or rely on facilities for the storage and dosing of commercial (technical-grade) sodium hypochlorite solutions with concentrations of 12–16%. Consequently, CHLOREFS units are not considered environmentally hazardous and fully comply with current industrial safety regulations governing chlorine-containing processes.
Direct electrolysis units generate the disinfectant – sodium hypochlorite – directly from the water being treated, using naturally occurring chlorides present in the source water. No external oxidizing agents are introduced into the water during the process.
For the disinfection of artesian or surface water using direct electrolysis, only an electrolyzer and a power supply unit are required. This eliminates the need for transportation, storage, and dosing of chlorine-based or other chemical reagents.
CHLOREFS UGPE direct electrolysis units are specifically designed for final-stage water disinfection, particularly in the following configuration:
